No matter how fresh your face looks, wrinkled or veiny hands can really age you. From as early as your late 20s, the fat cushion in the backs of your hands can diminish, making veins, tendons and bones show through. Severe weight loss and UV damage can also cause the tissue to lose its bounce and elasticity.
We use Radiesse to restore volume in the back of the hands; it is quick, safe, effective and gives lost lasting results.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is an FDA-approved injectable implant made up of synthetically produced calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a sodium carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier. This derma filler is minimally invasive and acts like a scaffolding under the skin to provide structure as well as stimulating the body to produce its own natural collagen. It restores shape and volume to the backs of the hands and is injected as a ball, or bolus, that is massaged into shape so the effect is very natural looking. This type of derma filler typically lasts over a year.
As it refills the indentations between the bones and tendons it makes the hands appear softer and younger as well as slightly lifting the skin so the colour of your veins is less noticeable. The final result can last up to 12 months.
What to expect from the treatment
The treatment is relatively pain-free and many clients find they can return to work the following day. It is important that you keep the area clean for at least 6 hours after the treatment and do not apply products such as hand cream. We will schedule you in for follow-up sessions as needed, the whole treatment can take around 2-4 sessions.
After the Treatment
In the case of derma fillers you may see some swelling for 24-72 hours post-treatment so we recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time between your appointment and any social events.
In order to avoid bruising you should avoid exercise with the exception of regular walking for 24 hours after your treatment and do not take Vitamin E (except in a multivitamin) or St.John’s Wort for 2-3 days before and after the treatment.
For 1 week before the treatment and 2 days after it you must not take aspirin, ibuprofen, Exedrin, Advil or Aleve to avoid swelling and bruising.
Due to the nature of the treatment there may be some mild side effects. Any redness, soreness, itching, tenderness or mild bruising should subside within 2-10 days.
The treatment costs depend on the amount of product used as well as the condition of your hands. You will be advised of the cost at your free consultation.
Prices start at £499 for 1.5ml of Radiesse.
